How to get involved in SA Rocks
- Use unpolished, clean, dry rocks. SA Rocks recommends natural river stones.
Glass and ceramic ones can shatter when dropped, resulting in injury.
- Acrylic paints and permanent markers work best.
- Write ‘SA Rocks’ and the Facebook symbol on it.
so people know what it is and how to find the page. Include your postcode.
- Rocks must be sealed before you drop them to stop paint and markers running in the rain.
- Pop your postcode on the rock so people can see how far it has travelled!
- Join the page and start dropping rocks and searching!
Finding a painted rock
- If you’ve discovered rocks, post a picture of them along with where you found them,
postcode and suburb again. Then drop the rocks somewhere else.
- Search the group for where you dropped your own rocks to see how far they’ve travelled.
- If you really like a rock you found, you can keep it, but drop new rocks to keep them
in circulation.
- Be mindful of the environment, and avoid sticking man-made items on the rocks, which can
fall off. Painted rocks should not be hidden is in Australia’s national parks and reserves.
- Avoid putting rocks in plastic bags or hiding them in grass, because they can become
hazards for lawnmowers.
